The heart is a hollow, muscular organ that acts as a pumping machine of the body. It continuously pumps blood to supply oxygen and nutrients to tissues and remove carbon dioxide and waste products.
1. Location of Heart
The heart is located in the thoracic cavity, between the two lungs in a space called the mediastinum.
It lies behind the sternum (breastbone).
About two-thirds of the heart lies toward the left side of the body.
The apex of the heart points downward, forward, and to the left.
